Ultrasound imaging uses high-frequency sound waves to produce pictures of the inside of the body. Ultrasounds show the structure and movement of the body's internal organs, as well as blood flowing through blood vessels.Ultrasound Imaging is also called Sonography.

Exam Preparation Instructions
- Please remember to arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time
- Wear comfortable clothing, (some exams may require 2 piece garments)
- Avoid wearing jewelry
- Bring anything in writing from the Referring Physician
- Bring License and Insurance Cards
- All consent forms will need to be signed prior to the exam and medical history will be reviewed
- Bring any comparison films you may have, unless they are previous with Russo
- Payment is expected at the time of service/exam
Abdomen
- It is preferred that the patient not eat or drink anything after midnight on the day prior to the procedure.
- It is adequate if the patient does not eat or drink anything 6 hours before the procedure
Baker's Cyst
- No dietary restrictions
- Allow approximately 20 minutes for the procedure
Breast Biopsy
- No Dietary Restrictions
- Exam typically takes 60 - 90 minutes, but may vary.
- This service is located at our Fairfield Office only.
Breast
- No dietary restrictions
- Allow approximately 15 minutes for the procedure
Carotid Doppler
- No dietary restrictions
- Allow approximately 45-60 minutes for procedure
Echocardiogram (Cardiac)
- No dietary restrictions
- Please allow approximately 30-60 minutes for the procedure
Endorectal
- The patient must use a Saline enema 2 hours prior to the procedure
- Allow approximately 1 hour for the procedure
Endorectal for Staging of Rectal Cancer
- The patient must use a saline enema 2 hour before the procedure
- Please allow 15-25 minutes for the procedure
Retroperituem (Kidney)
- Patient must fast for 6 hours prior to exam.
- Patient must drink four 8oz glasses of water, equaling 32 oz., 1 hour prior to the procedure
- Patient must not void (use the bathroom) after drinking the water.
Musculoskeletal
- No dietary restrictions
- Length of exam depends on abnormality and site
Pelvic & Pregnancy
- Patient must finish drinking 32oz of water 1 hour prior to the procedure without voiding (using the bathroom)
- Water should be consumed within a 15-30 minute time frame
- It is very important not to empty the bladder prior to the procedure
- Allow approximately 15-30 minutes for the procedure
- **Prep for pregnancy is soley for patient's over 12 weeks*
Sonohysterography
- No dietary restrictions
- Patient must empty bladder prior to the procedure
- Allow approximately 20-30 minutes for this procedure
Staging of Rectal Cancer with US
- Do not eat or drink anything after midnight on the day prior to the procedure
- Must use a saline enema 2 hours prior to the procedure
- Allow approximately 20-30 minutes for the procedure
Testicular
- No dietary restrictions
- Please allow 20 minutes for this exam
Thyroid
- No dietary restrictions
- Pleas allow approximately 15-30 minutes for this procedure
Transvaginal
- Patient must empty bladder prior to the procedure
- Allow approximately 30 minutes for the procedure
