A Cat Scan is a series of detailed pictures of areas inside the body taken from different angles. The pictures are created by a computer that is linked to an x-ray machine. The computerized xray machine produces cross-sectional images of the body. The images are far more detailed than x-ray films, and can reveal disease or abnormalities in tissue and bone. Also called computerized axial tomography (CAT) scan

Exam Preparation Instructions
- Please remember to arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time
- Wear comfortable clothing, (some exams may require 2 piece garments)
- Avoid wearing jewelry
- Bring anything in writing from the Referring Physician
- Bring License and Insurance Cards
- All consent forms will need to be signed prior to the exam and medical history will be reviewed
- Bring any comparison films you may have, unless they are previous with Russo.
- Payment is expected at the time of service/exam
CT with Contrast
- Do not eat or drink anything 4 hours before the procedure.
- If you, the patient, have known allergies to contrast or iodine, please contact your referring physician prior to the visit so the proper premedication can be administered.
- Allow approximately 1 hour for CT Abdomen/Pelvis scans
- Allow approximately 20 minutes for Orbits scans
- Allow approximately 45 minutes for CT Brain, CT Head, or CT Chest
Diabetic Patients - CT with Contrast
- Follow previous instructions
- It is our recommendation that patients who take any medicine, containing Metformin , need to withhold those meds for 48 hr after their CT with IV contrast.
- Other medications that contain Metformin are: Glycon, Riomet, Glucovance, Avandamet, Glumetza, Metaglip
Please arrive 1 hour prior to your scheduled appointment to drink the contrast, unless otherwise specified.
CT Lung Screening
- No dietary restrictions
- Allow approximately 15 minutes for the procedure.
CT Cardiac Calcium (Heart) Scoring
- No dietary restrictions
- Allow approximately 15 minutes for the procedure
